Meinir Heulyn is one of Wales' most experienced and versatile harpists, equally at home on the concert platform, in chamber music, in an orchestra or as a solo performer. Brought up in West Wales, she started to play the harp at the age of 10. After graduating from University College Cardiff, Meinir continued her studies at the Genova Conservatorio. She held the post ofof principal harp with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera between 1997-2003, with whom she has performed and recorded extensively.
Meinir provided solo accompaniment to both Bryn Terfel and Charlotte Church on their best-selling albums, and has herself recorded three successful harp duos with Elinor Bennett; a successful pairing that has led to many appearances on television and at major music festivals. Acknowledged as one of Wales' foremost harp teachers, Meinir is co-founder of Telynau Morgannwg (Glamorgan Harp Guild) and Coleg Telyn Cymru (The Welsh Harp College), whose courses attract students and teachers from around the world.
In 1997, she was appointed co-ordinator of harp studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, which is now a leading harp department in the UK. Meinir pursues a busy solo career, appearing regularly with leading British orchestras and opera companies, as well as numerous chamber ensembles.
